Support and Development Worker
Part time 16– 20 hours per week (negotiable) £17 600 pro rata
Ferns Kitchen Catering CIC is a community café based within a sheltered housing complex in south Edinburgh. We reduce social isolation and loneliness by providing a safe and welcoming café space with social activities aimed at over 50s. We also provide outside catering and offer volunteering and training opportunities to local people with barriers to employment.
We are looking for a part time support and development worker to help with the running of the social events and setting up of lunch clubs in the café. You will also liaise with other local organisations to promote Ferns and work together to maximise the benefit to the customers. The support and development worker be the first point of contact for visitors and residents coming to the café. They will have the ability to create a friendly and welcoming environment where people will feel relaxed and able to enjoy the company have access to nutritious food and join in with activities within the project. This is a great opportunity for the right person to use their skills and vision to enable local residents who have become isolated to widen their social networks. This is a new venture which offers the scope for creative development in an exciting and rewarding social enterprise.
The successful candidate will be required to
▪organise, publicise and promote lunch clubs
▪create and deliver activities for the lunch clubs
▪interact with customers in the café to encourage socialisation
▪liaise with local organisations
▪help out in the café as needed
▪ assist to support and train volunteers
▪market events and activities
Person Spec
Awareness of the issues facing people who are 50 and over
An understanding of the problems associated with isolation
▪good communication skills and an ability to engage with people
▪ Excellent organisational skills
▪Have the initiative to work well on your own, but alsothe ability to work with others
▪knowledge of local resources desirable
This position is subject to a satisfactory PVG
The project is funded for 8 months after which time we hope to extend the job with the possibility of a continued role dependant on funding.
