Fern’s Kitchen Catering CIC is a social enterprise community interest company based in south Edinburgh.
We aim to:
- Provide a community café, events and activities aimed at over 60s in our local community
- Reduce social isolation and improve the health and social inequalities amongst older adults by opening the cafe to the wider community
- Provide employability skills and work experience to adults with learning disabilities and disadvantaged local people who people have barriers to employment within a training kitchen and café enterprise
- Provide outside catering to organisations across the region and a ready meals service offering home cooked food
Ferns aims to improve the health and social opportunities of older people in south Edinburgh through creating a hub within Balfour House that meets their health and nutritional needs with access to affordable food in the café and ready meal provision.
In addition, it aims to create the opportunity for a more inclusive intergenerational space for work and volunteering for local young people including those with disabilities.
There is a growing older population in Edinburgh. Ferns hopes to improve the health and social opportunities of this generation, while providing a warm and welcoming community hub for everyone in the surrounding area. We offer services to the surrounding south Edinburgh area which include the boundaries of Craigmillar Medical centre and Conan Doyle medical centre, but everyone is welcome in the café.
Training and volunteer opportunities are available for people with barriers to employment, i.e. people with a learning disability or at risk of homelessness. If you or someone you know are interested in getting involved in these, please get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org
Fern’s is funded by revenue from the café and outside catering, and funding from First Port and the Robertson Trust.
